Until recently, Northwestel was the sole internet service provider in the community, offering low-quality 3G internet. Meanwhile, much of the world has transitioned to 5G technology. Gamètì residents faced challenges with slow download speeds, and the available internet options were limited and expensive. According to a CBC survey, residents were paying for a 2.5 Mbps download speed, far below the speeds available in other parts of the country. This lack of reliable internet infrastructure has posed significant obstacles for JWGS students accessing online classes and resources. It has limited their ability to fully engage in blended and online learning opportunities. The school has relied on a combination of videoconferencing and a learning management system to deliver online classes to high school students. However, addressing the internet issues and ensuring reliable and affordable connectivity remains a crucial aspect of enhancing educational opportunities in remote communities like Gamètì.
