In a world grappling with the monumental challenge of climate change, storytelling becomes a powerful tool for change. Vision Maker Media, in partnership with GBH, is proud to announce a remarkable opportunity for filmmakers across the United States. We invite all filmmakers, regardless of their career stage, to join us in an extraordinary journey to create short documentary digital films that explore the impact of climate change within their own Native communities. This blog post provides a comprehensive guide to the Climate Change Short Film Project, outlining its objectives, application process, eligibility criteria, and the profound impact it aims to achieve.
The Climate Change Short Film Project: A Vision for Change
The Climate Change Short Film Project is a groundbreaking initiative that seeks to empower filmmakers to become catalysts for climate action. Filmmakers are encouraged to propose, film, record, and produce a documentary digital short film, ranging from 6 to 8 minutes in length, with a solution-based approach. This project invites storytellers from diverse backgrounds to delve into the effects of climate change within their Native communities.
Selected filmmakers will have the unique opportunity to create documentary short films that will complement "Sea Change: The Gulf of Maine," a three-hour documentary special scheduled to air on PBS in July 2024. "Sea Change: The Gulf of Maine" explores the profound impact of climate change on life in the waters and along the shores of this unique region. The Climate Change Short Film Project aims to expand this narrative by shedding light on the experiences and solutions emerging from Native communities across the United States.
The Power of Stories
At the heart of this project lies the power of storytelling. Strong candidates are those who emphasize powerful narratives that leave a lasting impact on viewers. These are the stories that you can't wait to share with someone, stories that inspire change and action. Filmmakers selected for this project will commence production as early as October 2023, with post-production concluding in May 2024. The culmination of their efforts will result in a series of Climate Change Short Films that will be shared with a national audience in the summer of 2024.
